For their inaugural issue, Myrtle Beach Quarterly put a spotlight focus on The Carrell Group. The article, “Built Strong”, takes an in-depth look at how Bruce Carrell guided the company through the economic downturn in order to be in the position they are today.

“Acting on instinct, the Carrells went into pure survival mode with their building teams. ‘Our companies operated in a divide and conquer format,’ recalls Bruce. The staff did what they did best: build homes and help customers. Meanwhile, Bruce stayed focused on cash flow, sales and designs.”

Take a look at the entire article. The Carrell Group’s survival of one of the deepest and longest lasting recessions in recent history can only be attributed to Bruce’s never say die attitude.

While most economic news still remains either unclear or full of doom and gloom, we found a huge bright spot in this article from the USA Today.

The number of retirees retiring out of state is on the decline. While that may bode well for those areas retirees were typically leaving (New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts), this news is less favorable to those areas where they were typically retiring to (the entire Sun Belt region). Unless of course, the area you are referring to is the Carolinas.

“The Carolinas have emerged as the preferred retirement destination…according to Del Webb’s most recent Baby Boomer survey, a finding backed by Census data. North Carolina continues to gain a net of about 9,000 retirement-age residents every year from other states; South Carolina, about 6,000.

Check out the entire article! It truly is a promising read for our region, despite the doom and gloom for other regions.

“It’s a lot more than just protecting the structure of your home. There are lot of things that you want to protect on the inside. Things that you cant replace: the memories, the photos, the things that you have spent years accumulating, you want to make sure you protect those the best you can, and protect your family as well.” Allison Dean Love – IBHS
Marc Tye, VP of Conservation and Renewable Energy for Santee Cooper explains the savings of using CFL’s, and Hiren Shah, who recently completed a upgrade to CFL bulbs, speaks about his specifics savings.

The Carrell Group has been including this, and many other green building techniques, in their approach to home building. From large scale green building techniques like Insulated Concrete Form walls, down to minor green practices like switching to CFL’s, these are just a few ways The Carrell Group can earn your home an Energy Star rating.
